Exclusive to Harrods

Due to the exceptional relationship Neill has developed with his growers in Holland where he sources his flowers, we are able to obtain many special flowers in exclusivity for the Harrods concession. Our extraordinary growers send us new varieties and rare breeds that are not yet officially on the market as well as unusually high quality (longer stems, bigger heads).

One of our Vanda Orchid grower’s employees, Pim, known as the “Orchid addict,” grows his own private collection of rare Orchids in the Ansu glasshouses for testing purposes.  Every week, Pim makes his own selection of the most exquisite Vanda flowers from his collection especially for Harrods. He picks and packs them himself and sends them directly to us. They are always very rare blooms and are available only at Harrods.

There is one variety that stands out in particular for its beauty and its story. It has no name… It is a very beautiful Vanda Orchid that was discovered about 10 years ago by Steef van Adrichem, the owner of Ansu Vanda. He discovered a flower with a new and rare colour combination: white and golden yellow.  It came from a white “albino” Orchid crossed with a Sanderiana Orchid, the original, bi-coloured species of Vanda Orchids.  Its colour combination is extremely rare since white Orchids cannot be manually created but arrive, like an albino animal, as if an accident of nature.

Steef fell instantly in love with this flower and from the original plant bred 2,000 more plants for testing.  Most of Ansu’s Vanda Orchids produce flowers 3 times a year, however this exceptionally beautiful Vanda is capricious!  It’s flowering is quite inconsistent, sometimes once a year and sometimes not at all!  However, when it does flower the beauty is unsurpassable.  Although the variety is not commercially viable for Ansu, Steef has kept these 2,000 plants because they are a rarity of exceptional beauty.  Furthermore, the flowering stems are very firm, the flowers have a lot of energy, are very large and there are many of them on the stem which is because of the infrequency of the flowering.

This magnificent Vanda will now be available in very limited quantities, exclusively at the Neill Strain Floral Couture concession at Harrods.

Vanda Orchids are extremely long-lasting and sturdy flowers. They originate from Thailand and the Philippines where they grow naturally on the top of trees with their roots feeding from rain and dew in the air. The albino-gold Vanda is a pure miracle of nature.
